Caregiver Support Groups
Peer support in a non-judgmental atmosphere is a source of support for families caring for a frail loved one or someone with Alzheimer’s.  Our group leaders are professionally trained to lead groups which offer emotional support and practical advice for caring for a loved one.  Free on-site care is provided during the meetings.

Educational Events for Professionals and Caregivers
Our mission extends to providing education to the professional elder care network, caregivers and the community at large on issues related to aging, Alzheimer’s disease and caregiving.   For professionals, we often can provide continuing education units.  For caregivers, having information will support good decision making while furnishing the tools to cope with the challenges of caregiving.

Topics may include: Elder Law and Estate Planning; Accessing Community Resources; Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease; Managing Difficult Behaviors and Communication; Activities to Do at Home; Medicare and Medicaid; Safety in the Home.

Most of our events are free and open to the public.  Some may require a nominal contribution.  Please call (631) 585-2020, ext. 260, for more information about upcoming educational events in your community.

AFA Dementia Care Provider Training and Qualification
Dementia Care Professionals of America (DCPA), a division of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA), has approved select staff members of Day Haven Adult Day Services to provide community training to organizations interested in becoming AFA Qualified Dementia Care Providers. As a result, Day Haven's select staff can provide full-day training, which leads to qualification as an AFA Dementia Care Provider and membership to DCPA upon completion of the course and passage of an exam.

Group trainings are available at home care agencies, companion agencies, assisted living facilities, adult homes, centers for nursing and rehab, adult day care facilities, and senior centers. Click here for more information about AFA's Community DCPA Training Program available at agencies and organizations.

For more information about the AFA Community DCPA Training Program, contact Julie Wexler at (631) 585-2020, ext. 260.
