Elizabeth A. Geary
Elizabeth A. Geary, LMSW, Director of Day Haven
Betsy holds Master’s Degrees from Boston College and Hunter College School of Social Work and has been the director of Day Haven since 1999.  She brings to the program a passion for and expertise in providing high quality care to frail older adults and those with Alzheimer’s and supportive services to the families caring for them.  Betsy has over fifteen years of experience working in social model adult day services programs and developing community based programs to support elders and families.  She is continually seeking opportunities to enhance Day Haven’s services while making its high quality care accessible to those who need it.

Ethel ThomasEthel Thomas, QDCS, Site Supervisor, Port Jefferson
Ethel holds an Associates Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and brings to Day Haven years of experience in providing care to frail older adults and people with Alzheimer’s.  Ethel possesses a natural talent for developing programs and activities to enhance the individual strengths and compensate for the disabilities of the elders in her care.  She holds certification as a personal care aide, in first aid and aroma therapy.  Additionally, Ethel is a certified Laughter Leader and TimeSlips facilitator.  Ethel was the 2006 recipient of the Health Care Hero Award from the Long Island Business News and the Executive Director’s Quality is Excellence Award.  Ethel facilitates Day Haven’s caregiver support groups and is a frequent lecturer on issues related to caring for those with dementia.

Diane Van VelsorDiane Van Velsor, CTRS, QDCS, Site Supervisor, Ronkonkoma
Diane is a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist and has worked with the frail elder and those affected with Alzheimer’s and related dementias for many years. In order to provide optimal care to individuals and their families, Diane is continually expanding her knowledge and skills through coursework, conferences, and practice. Diane is certified in Alzheimer’s care by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and St. Joseph’s College and is currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program at St. Joseph’s. Diane also has a background in Art and Design and is a certified yoga instructor.
